Pedestrian Launched 150 Feet After Semi-Truck Impact in Thomas County
In late December of 2024, it was reported that a 66-year-old pedestrian had been struck and killed by a semi-truck in Thomas County. Police say that the victim was launched 150 feet after the impact and that he ultimately collided with a median on the other side of the highway. The injuries were fatal.
Police also stated that the pedestrian was at fault for the accident, as they were walking on the outside lane of a major road. After the truck driver spotted the man on the road, he reportedly tried to veer away and avoid an impact. However, this was not enough – and the victim was struck with the full force of a fast-moving semi-truck.
The trucker cooperated with law enforcement and stopped a few hundred feet away from the impact. He consented to an alcohol test, and police announced that they were waiting for the results.
Delivery Truck Carrying Propane Tanks Almost Causes Massive Catastrophe
In January of 2025, it was reported that a delivery truck had crashed in Whitfield County while transporting numerous propane tanks. The crash prompted first responders to evacuate more than 50 people in the immediate vicinity. These first responders were obviously concerned about the possibility of a catastrophic explosion.
If this explosion had occurred, it probably would have made national headlines. Police say that the propane delivery truck crashed into a tree after the driver lost control while navigating down a steep hill. It is not clear how many propane tanks were involved. However, the number of evacuations suggests that first responders expected a massive detonation.
Commercial trucks explode fairly regularly in Georgia, and these incidents can easily cause fatalities. Explosions may also cause disfiguring injuries, such as serious burns or shrapnel-related injuries. These explosions are obviously much more likely if commercial trucks carry explosive cargo – such as propane tanks.
Semi-Truck Crash in Wilkinson County Causes Three Fatalities
In late December of 2024, multiple sources reported that a semi-truck crash in Wilkinson County had caused multiple fatalities. Police say that the accident occurred when an SUV carrying four people ran a stop sign. The vehicle proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a semi-truck at full speed.
Two individuals in their 50s died in the impact. A third occupant was initially transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to their wounds. The fourth occupant was a six-year-old child, and although they also suffered injuries, they survived the collision.
